The 'Do's and Don'ts' of Social Media

DO - Ask questions on your wall

Facebook users love nothing more than to be heard. Their opinion counts, especially when it comes to the possibility of gaining their business. Interacting with your followers is of the upmost importance when it comes to planning your Facebook content. After all, they've already expressed an interest in your business enough to click 'Like'. Let them be heard.

DO - Talk about new or uncommon features of your business

If you are using Facebook or Twitter to market a new service your company is offering, grabbing the attention of your fans can be hard; you are obviously making a plug, and they know it. Make yours stand out from the crowd by picking an element about it that they wouldn't usually find in the marketplace and make sure they carry on reading.

DO - Mix up the content

By this, we mean use videos, content, photographs, blog posts, testimonials, anything that will capture the interest of your fans on a multitude of platforms. Blogging has become increasingly popular in the past five years, with companies using this method of communication as a way of promoting happenings within your business, new products, and daily life in your position.

By tweeting or sharing interesting news stories that relate to your industry, you are showing that you are a business that up to date with the latest happenings, and that you're also a reliable source to go to find out such news!

DON'T - Be afraid to get personal

We're by no means suggesting you should start posting pictures from the office party. But posting pictures from interesting events your company has been involved in is a nice way to show fans that you are extremely proud of your company. It also creates a level of friendship with your fans by the fact that you want to share these images with them.

DON'T - Overcomplicate your updates

The best policy when updating your Facebook or Twitter feed is to keep it short and snappy. Being presented with a paragraph-long status update is not going to catch the attention of your fans to the same effect that a two-lined update will. If you do have some exciting news about your business to share, determine the USP of that news piece and state it in an update, entice the user to want to know more.

DON'T - Forget your LinkedIn page

LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network with over 120 million members and growing rapidly. It's also a great way to spread the word of your company's credibility. Request LinkedIn recommendation from happy customers willing to provide testimonials.
